About Dr.Akkiraju Sundara Ramakrishna

Dr.Akkiraju Sundara Rama Krishna, M.A., Ph.D., is a Multi-faceted Personality. He is an Actor, Anchor, Singer and a Poet. He is a man of versatility. He was born in “Narsaraopet” Guntur Dist. on 23rd April 1949 to his parents Ramaiah and Annapurnamma. He completed his schooling and graduation in his native place and completed his Post Graduation M.A., MOL., M.Phil and Doctorate in Hyderabad. In addition to this he did his Post Graduate Diploma in Theatre Arts from Osmania University. He did his Doctoral work on “VENKATA PARVATEESHWARA KAVULU” and their poetical works with special reference to Ramayana under the guidance of the great “URDU AND TELUGU SCHOLAR” late Dr. Iriventi Krishna Murthy, Dept. of Telugu, Osmania University.

Singer: From his childhood Dr.Akkiraju has been very much interested in Acting and singing. In his tenth year itself he used to imitate old stage Artists, singers like Elapata Raghu Ramaiah, Suri Babu, Ghantasala Venkateshwara Rao etc. He is a God gifted singer with a metallic voice. Dr.Akkiraju’s rendering of Telugu poems is melodious and lucid. Not only Dr. Akkiraju is a good singer but also a good Music Composer. He composed and brought into light the CD’s and Cassettes like. “Lakshmi Narsimha Suprabhatham” (written by the great scholar, late Akkiraju Venkateswara Sharma, Rtd A.C.College, Guntur.) “Basara Saraswathi Vaibhavam”, “Sri Krishna Rayabaram”, “Shiridi Sai Suprabhatham”, “Ganesh Suprabhatham”, “Venkateshwara Stuti” are his other best musical CD’s. Recently he released a Biblical CD named “Kristu Rakshaka” in Hyderabad and this has brought him acclaim.

Film actor: Dr.Akkiraju is an ‘A’ grade Drama Artist in AIR and Doordarshan. He acted in nearly 100 Telugu Films and has done a variety of characters like “Governors” and “Collectors” and College Principals. In Mega Star Chiranjeevi’s hit Film “ MUTHA MESTRI” he acted as the Governor and in the film “Tagore” as Principal. He also acted as a lecturer in Nagarjuna’s hit Film, SIVA. In “EGIRE PAVURAMA” he acted as a Musician. He acted as a Collector in “President Gari Pellam” (V.M.C.Production).

TV and Drama artist: He also acted on the small screen as “adikavi Nannaya” and “Srinatha Kavi Sarvabhouma” and “Allasani Peddana” etc. He received great appreciation for his character “Tenali Rama Krishna” in Bhuvana Vijayam the court scene of the great ruler “Krishna Devaraya” in Doordarshan, Hyderabad. Dr. Akkiraju is a great mythological stage artist. He staged “SRI KRISHNA TULABHARAM” with the famous cine artist and EX-MP Smt. Kala Bharati “Jamuna” in many centers in India. His stage performances are lively and the characters like “Bilva Mangala” “Srikrishna” “Arjuna” “Kalidasa” “Bharatha” etc. brought him name and fame. Dr.Akkiraju acted almost all mythological characters. In 2002 and 2003 he travelled to gulf countries like Sharja, Dubai, Abudabi and performed “Bhuvana Vijayam” and Srikrishna Rayabaram.

TV anchor: Dr.Akkiraju is a good Anchor on stage as well as on screen. He was the Anchor for the serial “Pelli Pandiri” for almost three years in Teja and Gemini Channels and he made it a success. He has been a commentator for TTD Brahmotsavalu for the last 15 years.

Academician: He not only excelled in the cultural field, but also earned a name for himself in the academic field. He received the “best lecturer” award from Dr.Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh in the Academic year 2004-05. He retired as a lecturer in 2007 from “Tagore Home College”, East Marredpalli, Secundarabad. As a lecturer he prepared many lessons for students in telugu poetry and prose, for Intermediate level students and for Teli School Students.

As a Poet, Dr.Akkiraju wrote more than 10 books, among them “Amma Thodu” is a great satire. “sharada”, “Vasyamukhito mukhamukhi”, “Bheemanna”, “Bhimalinga Sathakam”, “Saneeswara satakam”, “Anjaneya satakam”, “Dasarathi – Satkavitha saradhi” etc..are among them. His very recent writings “hyderabadu” and “VENKATESHWARA” both are very good satires. His favorite telugu poets are late “DASHARATHI” (Telangana Lion) “JASHUVA” and “SHESHANDRA SHARMA”.

International recognition: Dr. Akkiraju is an international personality in literary, Drama and Music field, and was awarded many titles like “KAVITHA GANDIVI” “NATYA SRINADHA” “PADYA VIDYAMANI” “ABHINAVA TENALI RAMA KRISHNA” etc On the Invitation of ‘ TANA’ Dr. Akkiraju visited U.S.A. in 1993. There he staged the character of “Tenali Rama Krishna”(in Bhuvana Vijayam the court scene of Sri Krishna Devaraya) and won accolades from the Telugu people in the USA, for his great achievements in the field of Music, especially as a singer. His performance at TANA was very highly commended and was awarded the title of “ABHINAVA GHantasala”.
